Human Rights and Non-Discrimination Committee

What is the Human Rights and Non-Discrimination Committee?

The Human Rights and Non-Discrimination Committee provides a platform to EDF board members interested in human rights issues to exchange information and good practices on implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UN CRPD), other international human rights treaties (such as UN Convention on the Elimination of Discrimination of Women), and equality legislation at European and national level. It ensures that national and European members are closely involved in, and are fully informed about EDF’s work on human rights, equality, non-discrimination and especially on the UN CRPD.

EDF Human Rights and Non-Discrimination Committee meets twice a year during EDF Board meetings. The Committee feeds into the work of the Board by providing its expertise on human rights and equality from national, European and UN perspective.

Current work

The Committee is currently supporting our Secretariat in drafting the 5th European Human Rights Report on the right to vote and political participation. This report will gather, analyse and publish information from EU and Member States the right to vote and take actively part in political life. It is a part of the EDF annual Human Rights series which tracks progress over time on the realisation of the rights of persons with disabilities in Europe. The series stimulates comparison between European countries and studies key aspects of the implementation of the CRPD at national and European levels.
